Teeth Whitening

If you’re confident, you smile more. If you smile more, you feel more confident. But what if you don’t want to flash your smile because you’re embarrassed by discolored teeth?

Teeth whitening removes years of dingy stains from your teeth. Coffee, tea, wine, tobacco, and chocolate can dull tooth enamel. Simple and safe, most patients don’t realize how discolored their teeth are until they see a new smile emerge.

Numerous whitening products crowd supermarket shelves. While we don’t discourage these methods, you may want to consider the advantages of professional whitening:

  • Customized system: We make trays that fit your teeth perfectly. Flexible, thin plastic follows the shape of your teeth allowing the whitening gel to coat all tooth surfaces evenly. This means consistent whitening with less overflow of the gel onto your gums.
  • Controlled gel formulas: We use the highest quality whitening formulas available for safety and consistency: professional strength with careful quality control from known sources. Beware of temperature-sensitive gels stored in uncontrolled environments or made in an unknown setting.
  • Sensitivity management: You may experience temporary sensitivity in your teeth while whitening. We have specific strategies for you to use and will customize the product and method to help you have a comfortable and safe whitening experience.
  • Long-term results: Buying a box of whitening strips every few months adds up. With one set of custom trays, you’ll have a system that should fit for years. A simple refill syringe of gel picked up occasionally from our office allows you to keep your smile fresh for years to come.

Teeth whitening offers a predictable boost to your confidence through the power of a smile. Your The Smile Artists team draws on years of experience to help deliver whitening results that are safe and comfortable.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

The accessibility of teeth whitening pricing makes it ideal for a broad range of patients to whiten their smile. While costs can vary based on complexity and number of sessions, the average costs for a single session range from $600–$800 in most cases. Patients looking for a more affordable option may consider our take-home kits. However, the longer results of in-office treatments can make them more cost-effective long term. When consulting, we can go through treatment options to help you choose the right option for your budget and goals.

While insurance does not cover teeth whitening, patients may be able to use our financing options to break up payments. Our patient care team can go over options to see which best suits your goals.

In-office professional whitening usually lasts between 6 months and 2 years on average. However, excellent oral hygiene and healthy habits can help you get the most out of your results. On the other hand, habits that stain teeth can shorten your results, such as smoking, coffee, and tea. Take-home kits may have shorter results, but can still last up to 1 year on average.

In-office teeth whitening by a professional is generally safe for your teeth and enamel. We use clinically tested peroxide gel that breaks down stains without removing enamel. Your cosmetic dentist at The Smile Artists will always take care to protect your gums and soft tissue to avoid irritation.

In-office treatments provide same-day results and are performed by our cosmetic dentist. Take-home kits will let you whiten your teeth at home. They are more gradual but can still deliver impressive results.

Patients with mild to moderate extrinsic stains are the best candidates. Additionally, we may need to treat any decay or gum disease before moving forward with treatment. Severe stains may require alternative options, such as bonding or veneers, to cover them.

A typical in-office whitening appointment will take about 60 to 90 minutes.

Whitening only works on natural tooth surfaces. If you have stained restorations, the best solution is generally to replace them with fresh ones.

Avoid anything that could stain your teeth, including:

  • Coffee (hot or iced)
  • Tea (especially black tea)
  • Red wine
  • Cola and dark soda
  • Tomato-based sauces (pasta, pizza sauce)
  • Soy sauce, balsamic vinegar
  • Curry dishes (turmeric stains)
  • Beets
  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Cherries
  • Pomegranate
