Porcelain Bridges

Whenever you drive across a bridge, you’re being supported by the same principles that support a dental bridge. Crowned teeth on either side of a space are called abutments. They support an artificial tooth, called a pontic. While a bridge lasts for many years, sometimes the strain of supporting one or more missing teeth can cause the abutments themselves to weaken and may lead to more missing teeth.

In many cases, dental implants offer a better alternative, eliminating most of the load-bearing strain you see in traditional bridge abutments. When carefully placed in the bone, an implant mimics the root of a tooth. They bear the load that the natural teeth used to hold, sparing the neighboring teeth from excessive forces. In some cases, two implants may be used to build a bridge.

Our doctors know how to bring the puzzle pieces together to fit any scenario regardless of the scope of your treatment.

Dental Bridges FAQs

The cost of bridges will mostly depend on the type and number of teeth in the bridge. Additionally, any preparatory treatments can influence the total cost. With that in mind, most of our patients can get bridges in Los Angeles for between $2,000 and $4,000. Our consultation process involves building a personalized plan with a no-commitment quote, complete with a clear itemization of costs.

Two main factors influence how long your bridges will last. Firstly, the quality of the bridges and their placement. Well-made bridges that are properly placed should be less susceptible to wear over time. The other factor is largely in the patient’s hands. Keeping up with dental checkups and maintaining good oral hygiene/habits will help prolong your bridges’ lifespan. On average, patients can expect their dental bridges to last at least 5 to 15 years.

A good candidate for dental bridges will:

  • Have one or more missing teeth with viable adjacent teeth to provide support for the bridge
  • Have healthy gums with no active gum disease
  • Have good oral hygiene and a strong commitment to maintenance
  • Not have any severe teeth grinding or bite issues

Most of our patients can get bridges in 2 to 3 weeks with 2 separate visits. If more preparatory work is needed, you might need an extra visit or two.

Our use of local anesthetics prevents any pain during the treatment. Depending on the preparatory work done, you may have some soreness afterward for a day or two.

For the most part, a healthy daily oral hygiene routine will serve as the basics for daily care. Brush twice daily, use fluoride toothpaste, and focus on the gumline.

Importantly, bacteria and debris can build up under the bridge. Using a floss threader or water flosser is essential to clearing out that buildup and preventing bad odor.

Yes! If your dental bridges begin to show signs of wear, replacing them is the best solution.

We take thorough impressions and digital imaging to ensure your bridges match your natural teeth. Every set of bridges is custom-made to match the natural color of your teeth to ensure a seamless integration into your smile.

Most insurance plans do cover dental bridges. However, the amount of coverage will depend on your plan’s details. Most patients can expect insurance to cover about 50% of the cost. Some select plans may provide coverage up to 70–80% after the deductible.
